A woman was killed and a man was in critical condition after a car crashed into a tree in Phoenix early Monday morning, police said.

Around 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a collision near 16th and Mohave streets where they located a vehicle that crashed into a tree, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Officers found a man and woman inside the vehicle, both with serious injuries.

The woman, 23-year-old Jasmin Garcia Romero, was pronounced dead at the scene by Phoenix Fire Department personnel, police said. Officials said the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
