Offensive Impact: Nelson Agholor redeems himself in Seattle with best game of career

Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor was the lone bright spot offensively in the team’s 24-10 loss in Seattle on Sunday night.

In a game squandered because of mistakes and missed opportunities, Agholor had the best performance of his three-year career. The wideout caught seven of his 12 targets for 141 yards and the Eagles’ only touchdown.

This was Agholor’ first 100-yard game in the NFL. He had 48 more yards on Sunday than in any other game of his career.

And there were several opportunities downfield for Agholor that quarterback Carson Wentz did not capitalize on. Wentz underthrew Agholor on one of his receptions, a play that could have gone for an even bigger gain had Wentz led the receiver.

Even worse, Wentz sailed the ball over Agholor’s head on a drive in the first quarter. Agholor had no one around him and could have run for a touchdown.

Last year in Seattle, Agholor made several costly mistakes that had a significant impact on the team’s loss. Coach Doug Pederson benched the receiver for the following game against Green Bay.

Against the Seahawks this year, Agholor had an incredibly different performance. He was the Eagles’ most effective offensive weapon in a game where they struggled as a unit.

The Eagles played conservatively on offense Sunday night. But when they went downfield to Agholor, he made plays, most notably receptions for 51, 32 and 27 yards.

Though the impressive performance came in a losing effort, Agholor deserves credit for his playmaking ability. At the site of perhaps the most disastrous performance of his career, Agholor redeemed himself a year later with his most productive game.
