Adidas have released online two updated models of the UltraBOOST for SS18- the UltraBOOST and the UltraBOOST X.
UltraBOOST X
The UltraBOOST X is designed specifically for women and has a ‘sleeker’ silhouette, which compares to the UltraBOOST Uncaged and the adizero Sub2, according to the website.
In order to achieve this visual, Adidas have placed the support features and the cage to the inside of the footwear.
The PrimeKnit upper is said to have the ability to mould to the runner’s feet, which is allowed by the adaptive arch. The shoe also features a 3D sculpted heel counter which claims to control horizontal actions whilst allowing the Achilles tendon to run vertically.
UltraBOOST
As for the UltraBOOST, it incorporates the original ventilation holes from the original model, to the upper along the sweat zones in the foot.
Adidas have also redeveloped the structure of the PrimeKnit, which reduces the stretch and provides extra support, according to the website. Within the heel of the trainer, there is a Fit Counter, which claims to allow the Achilles tendon to move without any restrictions.
Both versions have the built-in BOOST midsole, which reportedly provides cushioning for the runner. The UltraBOOST comes in two colourways for men and women, whereas the UltraBOOST X is available in grey with a blue heel counter, just for ladies.
Energy From the Ground Up
Adidas Running have set up a new campaign, Energy from The Ground Up , to go along with the new collection. The aim is to ‘celebrate the raw, unfiltered emotions and energy of a runner’s journey’, according to the website.
Long distance runner, Dominique Scott-Enfurd and sprinter, Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake will be the new faces of the campaign and are also featured in the video, alongside Adidas’ global ambassador, Adrienne.
Adrienne said via her Instagram (@adrienne_ldn) that she was ‘totally buzzing’ to be featured in the campaign.
Dominique (@domscottrunsa) also shared a photo with the caption ‘try catch us…I dare you.’

Adidas’ Running Senior Product Manager, Stephan Schneider said:
“As an open source brand, we are able to listen to the consumer, take on board what they like and dislike about each Ultra model, use this insight to constantly evolve and change our products to meet their needs.”
He added:
“This approach led us to create the brand-new construction of the PrimeKnit Upper, which fuses our consumers’ favourite features of the old – the ventilation holes of the UltraBOOST OG – and new –the knitted upper of the UltraBOOST, creating something totally new and unique for our global running community.”
The UltraBOOST and UltraBOOST X came out online on February 21 and will be coming to Adidas stores worldwide from February 28 with a MRRP of $180.
