The Last Two Zellers In Canada Are Closing Their Doors And Canadians Are Heartbroken
Back in January 2013, it was announced that most Zellers across Canada would be closing their doors for good, getting rid of the chain that many Canadians once loved. However, after the closure of most of their stores throughout the nation in March 2013, two sole stores remained, standing proud amongst those that were now empty shells. However, these last two Zellers have just confirmed to Narcity that they will be closing their doors, finally ending the Zellers chain in Canada.
If you're as old as I am, you probably remember when the majority of Zellers shut down around Canada back in 2013. In fact, as many of the stores started to turn off their lights, Targets began to replace the once occupied buildings.
However, since 2013, two Zellers have remained in Canada, trying to hold onto the tradition of the now-infamous brand. Etobicoke and Ottawa are the only two cities left in the nation where residents can spot the once-popular red sign, but it won't be that way for long.
In a Reddit post today, one user made note that the Zellers in the Ottawa location had put up a big yellow sign stating 'Store Closing'. Staff at this Zellers location confirmed to Naricty that they are closing their doors, yet cannot confirm exactly when.

The store in Etobicoke also seems to be following suit, confirming to Narcity that they will be closing their doors at the end of January 2020.
The location in Ottawa has already started some closing sales, offering customers 10% off all of their men and women clothing, hoping to clear out their store before closing their doors for good.
Of course, since this news broke, many Canadians seemed to be disheartened by the news, sad that the legacy that once plagued our childhoods is finally coming to an end.
One user even went as far as to say, "Damn, I hoped they would live long enough to become a tourist destination like the last Blockbuster."

So if you want to get one last nostalgia kick, you can still go and visit the two locations while they're open, and maybe even grab some good closing deals.
