Position Summary

Perform a variety of duties involved in the planning, care and maintenance of plants and grounds and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Related education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED, plus two (2) years experience in horticulture grounds maintenance work.

Additional Requirements: 

Possession of a New Mexico Driver's License (Class D) or the ability to obtain by date of hire. 
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Methods and techniques of plant maintenance including the pruning and trimming of a variety of shrubs
  • Care, operation and maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment
  • Principles of plant taxonomy and classification
  • Techniques of plant and garden care
  • Proper watering techniques as applied to individual plant life
  • Safe work practices
  • Basic principles and practices of grounds maintenance
  • Basic principles and practices of irrigation system installation,  maintenance, and repair

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Care for and maintain a variety of plant life
  • Perform a variety of grounds maintenance duties
  • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
