ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Students all across Albuquerque Public Schools are showing their support after losing one of their own over the weekend.
The student body presidents at all the district schools are asking students to wear green Wednesday. This, after the death of their classmate, 17-year-old Osvaldo Conejo Jr.
Conejo died when the car he was riding in with several other teens rolled near Unser and Lava Bluff NW over the weekend.
Student leaders say they want to come together for Conejo’s family and for the Albuquerque High School community and wear their school color, green.
“Any time that we have a situation like this, it’s not that we’re supporting just this kid or just the family,” said Jake Debevec, Eldorado High School Student Body President. “We’re supporting the whole community and supporting Albuquerque High and Kelly green is the way to do that.”
“It’s kind of a way to show that we’re all together. It’s not we’re from different schools, it’s not Eldorado, Sandia. It’s we’re all together as a family when tragedy happens,” said Asheli Fierro Albuquerque High Student Body President.
Conejo ran varsity track at Albuquerque High School. Students are also sharing the hashtag, “BulldogStrong” to show their support.
The students have also been raising money for the family at the school and at sporting events.
