The Saskatchewan farmer who had a movie made about his fight with Monsanto over Canola seed ...  has lost his last fight.

Percy Schmeiser had suffered from Parkinson's disease and passed away Tuesday at the age of 89.

In the late 1990s Schmeiser became known for his court battle with Monsanto over its genetically modified canola.

Monsanto alleged that he was using their GMO Canola without a licence, while Schmeiser said the seeds could have blown in from a neighbour's field or passing truck.

The case went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada which found he had infringed on Monsanto's patent.

That fight has been memorialized on film in the movie "Percy".

Golden West's Paul Figueiredo recently talked with the movie director Clark Johnson about the film.
