Publisher's summary

Your new husband has a shocking secret. Would your mother-in-law kill to protect it?

From the moment I meet my new mother-in-law in her beautiful country house, she makes it clear I’m not welcome. Lilian Fletcher hates me for marrying her precious boy on a golden beach far away from her.

Starting our marriage living in the Fletchers’ family home is a nightmare. Then I discover Seb was married before and his first wife is dead. I wonder why the man I love didn’t tell me the truth. And I wonder what happened to her: the woman who came before me. How did she die?

Lilian’s steely blue gaze follows me everywhere. Then the accidents start to happen, and I know she is behind them. It starts with small things, like a dropped birthday cake, a spilt glass of wine. But then my mother-in-law accuses me of something terrible. This woman is determined to get me out of her son’s life.

Now I wish I’d never met my handsome, clever husband. Or come to this luxurious house that feels more like a prison.

But I have secrets too. And no-one knows who I really am….

From the USA Today best-selling author, this totally addictive psychological thriller will keep you guessing all the way to the final shocking twist. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us.

Not up to Shalini Boland's level of writing..a bit of a lazy predictable story.

Great suspense story

Shalini Boland really knows how to draw me into a story. I think I know what's going to happen but I'm surprised every time. Katie Villa is a wonderful narrator.

Story kept moving at a nice pace

It’s interesting how KL Slater packs a punch near the end of the book every time.

compelling family drama

"The Daughter-in-Law" is a compelling family drama that I rate four stars. This book delves into the complexities of relationships and the intricate dynamics within a family. The story revolves around the evolving relationship between a mother and her daughter-in-law, highlighting the clashes and bonds that form over time. The character development is well-executed, and the author delves deep into the emotions and motivations of each character. While the pacing is generally good, there were moments when the plot felt somewhat predictable. Nonetheless, it's a thought-provoking exploration of family ties and expectations, making it a solid choice for readers who enjoy domestic dramas.

Most disappointing "twist" ever written!

I've enjoyed some of Shalini Boland's work in the past, and this one initially seemed to be one of her best. I was totally engaged in this fast-paced thriller--until suddenly the bubble burst. Following a big "twist", I was left with characters who were extremely nasty, and a storyline that was simply ridiculous. You've got to be kidding, I thought. Do you actually expect me to believe this? I kept hoping that somehow the story would redeem itself, but no such luck. Oh, Shalini, why do you insist on imbedding a twist in everything you write? Overall rating (considering the great beginning): 2.5 stars rounded up

STOP COMPARING EVERY SUSPENSE BOOK TO GONE GIRL

Really Audible? I feel like I could copy and paste the overview for almost any book classified as a suspense or thriller book. “An unputdownable (not a word, Audible) thriller if you liked girl on the train or gone girl you’ll like. (Title here)”. . Rinse, repeat. This book is pathetic. No suspense, A main character supposedly from Australia without an Australian accent except for one word here or there with an Australian twang. And why must every book have some twist at the end which seems to be just thrown in because every book needs to have a twist at the end now. Maybe I listen to too many thrillers on audible but they all seem to blend together. I won’t remember this book 5 minutes after I finish listening to it. What a waste of a credit.

I liked this

I really liked it I just wish it had been a bit longer. I feel like it was too soon for the revelation. But loved it

Several Great Twists!!!!

I really loved this story! I especially loved the multiple surprising twists in the story! I’m usually able to figure out the twists way ahead of time, but I didn’t see these ones coming at all! Another great story by Shalini Boland!!!
